Discover the allure of Gozo, Malta’s captivating sister island, on a journey you won’t want to pass up.

Tour Description

Gozo, which is a three-hilled island, is greener and more picturesque than Malta.  After a twenty-minute ferry crossing (included in this guided tour), you will note that although both islands are similar in history and development, Gozo has a character entirely of its own. With history goes back to 5000 B.c. it certainly has what to offer.

Ggantija Temples

The first stop on Gozo is Ggantija, a Neolithic megalithic temple which is the earliest of a series of megalithic temples in Malta. The Ggantija temples are older than the pyramids of Egypt. Their makers erected the two Ggantija temples during the Neolithic Age, which makes these temples more than 5550 years old and the world’s second oldest man-made religious structures, after Gobekli Tepe.

Ta’ Pinu Basilica on Gozo island

During this guided tour, you will visit The National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu, which is a Roman Catholic basilica and national shrine located 700 meters from the village of Gharb on Gozo. Ta’ Pinu church is located on the edge of a cliff in the open countryside, which allows visitors to enjoy beautiful views of the area. This neo-Romanesque church, which soars to an impressive height of 61 meters (200 feet), was constructed in a 16th century chapel, parts of which can be found behind the present-day altar.

Dwejra Bay

Then you will visit Dwejra Bay, where you could see until 8th March 2017, a natural arch featuring a table-like rock over the sea /the Azure Window/. If weather permits, you can also purchase a short boat ride in the Inland Sea and see the famous Fungus Rock.

Gozo’s Crafts Village

It is following a visit to the Crafts Village. There you can see stone works, marble, traditional food, local lace, and much more. This is the perfect place where you can buy a souvenir that will remind you of Gozo island.

Victoria, the capital of Gozo

After that, you will visit Victoria or Rabat, which is the capital of Gozo. Victoria is the name given in 1897 by the British government on the occasion of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, at the request of the Bishop of Malta, Mons. Sir Pietro Pace. However, Gozitans still often refer to it by its old name, Rabat.

The area around Victoria, situated on a hill near the centre of the island, has been settled since Neolithic times. Above all, in the centre of Victoria lies The Cittadella, a historic fortified city. The Cittadella also called The Citadel, is on Malta’s tentative list of future World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, who describes it as a small fortified town. An old prison is located within the city, as are the Courts of Justice.

Qala Belvedere

Finally, you will drive to Mgarr Port via Qala Belvedere, where breathtaking scenes can be enjoyed. You will then have a short ferry crossing back to Malta island and will be dropped off at your hotel or pick-up point.
