Visit Malta highlights in a day – Valletta, Mosta, Mdina, and The Crafts Village. This tour is a beautiful mix of architecture and views. Presenting Maltese history from the Middle Ages, during World War II, to the present day.

Tour Description

Mosta

During this Malta Highlights Guided Tour, you will first visit Mosta, a central town famous for its Rotunda church built in the 18th Century. Mosta Rotunda also famous as Mosta Dome, has the third-largest unsupported dome in the world. The internal diameter of 37.2 metres and the walls are nearly 9.1 metres thick. It displays a replica of the World War II bombshell that famously crashed through the dome but did not detonate upon impact, thus sparing the lives of some 300 people.

The Crafts Village

After that you will stop in Ta’Qali – The Crafts Village, located nearby was once a British World War II outpost but has been converted into a village for local handicrafts. Here you will be able to watch local artisans at work blowing glass art pieces, intricately assembling original silver filigree jewellery and many more. In short, this is the perfect place to pick up treasures that will remind you of your Malta visit.

Mdina

You will then visit Mdina which is built on a plateau in the centre of the island. Above all the city’s Baroque buildings, cathedral and magnificent bastion walls dominate the rural skyline. Once Mdina was the capital of Malta until the modern city of Valletta was built in 1565. It has many names including Melita (Roman occupation), Medina (Arabic occupation), Citta’ Nobile (Knights of St. John) and Citta’ Vecchia. Today is also referred as the Silent City since it inspires tranquillity at any time of the day or night. Some scenes of the famous Game of Thrones series were shot in Mdina. The only way to experience and enjoy this city is on foot, explore the quaint alleys, narrow streets, ancient buildings and magnificent far-reaching countryside views from the high bastion walls. Mdina is one of Malta highlights you shouldn’t miss!

Valletta

The final stop is Valletta, Malta’s Capital City and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Valletta contains buildings from the 16th century onwards, built during the rule of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, also known as Knights Hospitaller. You will walk through the bustling streets and to Barracca Gardens for a breathtaking panorama of the Grand Harbour. Here you will have time for lunch. During your free time, you can visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral where you can see the painting ‘The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist’ by Caravaggio, considered one of Caravaggio’s masterpieces and the only painting signed by the painter. Certainly, Valletta should be the first in your Malta highlights list!
